Unit 11

RSC Pitch Feedback

Recently Jake, Seamus and I rehearsed and pitched our concept idea for Blood Brothers to James and Lee as well as the rest of the group before pitching our idea to the RSC a week later. The main feedback we received from both lectures was that it was slightly weak and the main narrative that was going to be portrayed in the trailer was to brief and wasn’t illustrated to the audience clear enough. Within the week we had between each of the pitches, we sat and refreshed our idea completely and focused more on what part of the narrative of the play we will focus on in the trailer. We realised that we were getting confused by planning on making a trailer for the full show, however we only had to make a concept trailer which only teases part of the story to the audience.

The following week we officially pitched our idea to Kris Vankey. After delivering the pitch, he spoke that he didn’t quite understand the main concept idea at first but after visually looking at the storyboard he did start to get the narrative that we were trying to portray. Vankey also gave us advice in making an image partially black and white (known as selective colour) after looking at an image taken from Schindler’s list in our moodboard. Another member of staff from the RSC called Gemma who attend the pitch also mentioned that the play choice of Blood Brothers was a very strong choice and has a lot of potential in it to make a good trailer. She did speak that we need to consider more about the sound in the trailer, although we did talk afterwards that we were going to have a voice over reading part of the script taken from the play that we think would work well.

My personal thoughts of the pitch was that there was definitely an improvement between the rehearsal and real pitch. The Prezi was significantly improved than before as it visually looked much better, which was mainly made up of a selection of images to make it more interesting and appealing. I felt much happier about our concept idea as it was delivered to our audience much better than before as it wasn’t clear enough originally. Compared to previous pitches in the past, I actually felt much more confident about myself speaking to an audience than I had before. I was still nervous before hand, however once I got up and started to sell our idea I was absolutely fine.

I thought that what we could have done to make it better was by adding some more information in the Prezi about our main influences we each had on the concept of the trailer. I also felt that we should have spoken more about the sound of the trailer as we spoke about it very briefly which was later mentioned by Gemma. The main targets I would set for us as a group would be to ensure that we always have a clear well structured narrative that we want to be portrayed in the trailer, and to take into consideration more about the mise en scene of the image such as the clothing and props that we are going to use in each of the shots.
