Shaun of the Dead Film Review

This is a film review I submitted to IntoFilm which won Review of the Week.

Shaun of the Dead is directed by Edgar Wright and is about a 30 year old man called Shaun, played by Simon Pegg, attempting to get some kind of focus in his life as he deals with his girlfriend, his mother and stepfather. At the same time, he has to cope with a zombie apocalypse uprising the streets of London. Considering this is a film starring Simon Pegg, my thoughts were that it was going to be hilarious and it really was which made me enjoy everything about it. I urge you to go and see this film – it’s brilliant!

Firstly, the main plot of the film is Shaun and his flat mate Ed leading a small group of his friends and family to their obvious stronghold: the Winchester, their local pub they both can’t keep out of. As the plot stands, the whole film is very easy to follow with very little attention needed to understand everything that is going on, which makes it accessible to watch for all types of viewers. As an individual I very much enjoyed this film, especially the comedy side of it. The way in which Shaun and Ed lead their lives, go about doing things and what they talk about is truly amusing.

Secondly, one particular scene that stood out to me was when Shaun and Ed are faced by a male and female zombie in their back garden. What especially stood out to me was to how funny this scene was and the way in which they both go about tackling the problem they are in. Both characters in the scene are seen kneeling down in the garden going through Shaun’s vinyl collection, choosing the records he is willing to get rid off and throw at both of the zombies. It’s just mesmerizing how they both take the time to make sure that none of their classic records they don’t want to lose are used which clearly shows how funny their approach on something really is.

I would very much highly recommend this film to anyway looking to watch something funny. The level of comedy is truly amazing and Wright really has included many hilarious moments in the entire film. This film I would say is mainly directed towards teenagers and adults, and I would advise no young viewers to watch this as the content and language used is fairly extreme for little ones.
