Synopsis

A very bored male protagonist has been left with a lot.

The film begins with him flipping a £2 coin to make a decision if he should go to work.

He texts his boss, simply asking ‘heads or tails’.

Eventually, he begins to lose his possessions, such as his car and his house.

Finally, he is seen living on the streets with a 1p coin in his hand.

It ends with someone giving him a lifeline.

Primary Research

The above shot is taken from Toby Jones who is a previous media student at the college who made a short filmed called ‘moments between.’ for the exact same project I am currently doing. Toby’s film stood out to me because of the work he did with using a drone. The above image is the first shot we see in the whole film. This is clearly one of the drone shots he uses. The camera is positioned down and slowly pans upwards as the car enters the frame from the bottom. The image works really nice as we clearly see how this person driving is completely isolated and alone. In a short film about a person on the  street, this will work really nicely as it will clearly portray the lonely protagonist.

“I vividly remember reading the letter informing me that my lodgings were terminated, and I would need to vacate by 1 March, 2017. I was suddenly very scared and began to worry: where would I sleep? How would I cook food? How would I wash and clean myself? I dreaded being seen as someone who can’t look after themselves, a person shunned by society.”

This quote stood out to me as It clearly shows how he is thinking about what he’s going to do with his life and questioning himself how he’s going to cope with no where to go. It really puts me into his shoes when I read this quote and makes me feel the sympathy towards him which I’m sure other people would feel if they were to read this quote. It makes you think as well how so many people have to think this to themselves because of their current situation.

Camera Shots

Opening – Establishing Shot, clearly revealing the location of this homeless man, emphasis the coldness of the atmosphere and isolation that this character is faced with all of the time. Wide Angle with the homeless man Leo positioned to the left of the frame sitting down on the cold damp floor looking depressed.

Location – RSC Waterside

RSC

2nd – Low Angle shot from the floor looking up towards Leo sat on a wall completely alone and isolated looking into the distance.
